SPIRAL WOUND GASKETS

FEATURE

Semi metallic gaskets (combination of/ alternate plies of metallic fillers and soft material fillers) available in variety of styles and shapes

High performance at high temperature and high pressure

No leakage even at low temperature

Temperature Range : Cryogenic to 1000 deg C

Pressure range: Vacuum to ASME B 16.5 standard 2500 # ratings

No leakage even if sudden variation in operating temperature and pressure

Location surface requires no need of fine surface finish

Widely used at process line, lines handling heating medium in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, steam processing lines in thermal power stations, pressure vessels, boilers, steam turbines, atomic power stations, etc.

     SSG-STYLE SW

Awesome Image

Consists of only spiral wound sealing component. I.e. metallic and soft filler windings.

No INNER or OUTER ring is used.

Diameter range can vary from ½” to 24” NPS; In special cases, diameter range can vary even up to 2 meters (2000 mm) depending on width of gaskets.

Used in TONGUE & GROOVE joints, MALE & FEMALE joints and also in flat faced flanges.

Available in various shapes such as Round, Oval, square, etc.

Commonly used metal fillers are SS304/L & SS316/L.

Commonly used soft fillers are CAF, Grafoil and TEFLON.

     SSG-STYLE SW_OUTER

Awesome Image

Consists of spiral wound sealing component with solid metal outer ring and also called centering ring or guide ring.

Outer ring provides radial support for sealing component and also prevent the sealing component from being over crushed.

General purpose gasket suitable for flat face and raised face flanges.

Commonly used outer rings are Mild steel, SS304/L & SS316/L.

Find wide applications in oil refineries and follows standard ASME B 16.20 (1” TO 24” NPS) and also ASME B 16.47 (26” TO 60” NPS).

Diameter range can vary from ½” to 24” NPS; in special cases, diameter range can vary even up to 3 meters (3000 mm).

     SSG-STYLE SW_INNER

Awesome Image

Solid inner ring acts as a compression stop and fills the annular space between flange bore and inside diameter.

Reduce inward buckling of sealing element and also prevent accumulation of solids, reduce turbulent flow of fluids.

Available in various shapes and these inner support rings are found useful in special shapes such as oval, square etc.

Find wide applications in man holes, reactors, valves, etc where slenderness ratio is large (ratio between outer size and width).

Though the mild steel inner rings are commonly used, the best practice is that the inner rings should be made using the same material as metallic windings of the spiral wound component.

Diameter range can vary from ½” to 24” NPS; in special cases, diameter range can vary even 2 meters to 3 meters diameter.

     SSG-STYLE SW_OUTER_INNER

These types of gaskets are fitted with inner& outer ring.

Inner rings provide additional compression limiting stop and provides heat and corrosion barrier protecting gasket windings.

Suitable for use with flat face and raised face flanges.

Specified for high pressure/temperature service class 900# and above or where corrosive or toxic media are present.

Generally used in ASME B 16.20 class 900# and above and also used in B 16.47 type of flanges above 24” X 600#

Find wide applications in oil refineries and follows standard ASME B 16.20 (1” TO 24” NPS) and also ASME B 16.47 (26” TO 60” NPS).

     SSG-STYLE SW_RIB

Awesome Image

These gaskets are also of spiral wound family in addition, fabricated with RIBS/PASSES of various styles depending on applications.

These ribs can be 2 types (1) solid metal of the same material used in spiral wound (2) Jacketed rib filled with soft filler.

Find wide applications in heat exchangers with multiple passes for fluids.

Range of diameter can vary from 100 mm to even 2 meters.

     SSG-STYLE SW_NOSE

Awesome Image

Nose windings are also called BARE winding as these windings are wound by using only steel and not using soft materials.

These nose windings acts as a support ring for the gaskets and it can be provided in place of INNER RINGS OR OUTER RINGS OR BOTH.

Wherever the space constraints for providing outer or inner rings or both and the space availability is less than 4 or 5 mm, NOSE WINDINGS are the better option in place of solid metallic rings.

Range of diameter can vary from 100 mm to even 2 meters.
